1-31-10.... Purchased from Jack aka copenhagenfiend on Vintage-Vans.com. Drove 6 hrs, one way, in the snow and rain, and then 10miles of heavy fog about 20 minutes from home. Left Jacks and got about 80 miles when i noticedthevan moved over on the car dolly. Looked and found that the strap over the left wheel had come loose and is now under the tire....WTF? How does that happen, anyway, a dead battery forced us totry and rollthe van of the dolly or back far enough to get the strap free. Actually 4low in the truck assited with that and we were back on the road fairly quick. So 13 1/2 hrs travel time we finaly get home with a fairly easy trip and a great van. Thanks Jack.
And Thanks To George and Carolyn for helping me go get it.
2-1-10....Today 1st thing was to charge the battery. Why it was charging i stole the batt out or the 66 no door. Had to use a little starting fluid to fire it up (we'll see if i need it in the morning) but
it started fine all day. Drove around getting insurance, registration, paying bills.
Didnt notice till about 4 that there wasn't a licence plate on it all day. Put a little oil in, some fuel additive. Put a Harley FLH muffler on it (beat the $135 the muffler shop wanted). Had some home speakers in the basement that i hooked up to the Alpine that Jack left for me. Washed the snow and mud off the windshield, did a couple of burn-outs, raced a chevy van, and drove around for a while.
2-2-9...Number four cylinder not firing. Theres a crack in the exhaust manifold at #4 so.....we'll see where that leads.
2-3-10... Changed plugs and wires real quick at work, cap and rotor in new condition. Plugs were bad and #4 was wet and gooey black. Didnt check points or condensor, maybe tommorow if time permits. Runs a little better but parked it untill i can get a manifold off the other van. Going to change points and condensor and shoot a timing light at it and pull the carb this weekend... hopefully. Gotta go breed my dog first.......ahhhh,take him to breed.....he aint that cute and i dont swing that way. hehehehehe
2-15-10....got a free 200ci motor a couple of days ago. Ol lady and I tore it down last night over a couple beers and some apple pie. Going to use the exhaust manifold on this motor and rebuild the 200 before installing it in one of the other vans or this one.??? Today Carolyn vacumed out this one and helped me pull out all the carpet and wood from the back. We got the back doors open and inspected that big dent a little closer. Floor is in pretty good shape, a few screw holes and some surface rust needs repair. We also pulled off the wheels from the 66 brown van to get cleaned up for use on one of the vans.???
2-21-10... Had Logo lettered on van yesterday. Chainged points and condensor in distributer. No real help. Going to rebuild a carb and swap it out. hopefully tommorow.
2-24-10... Rebuilt carb, maybe a litlle help with runability. Found compression tester. #4 cylinder is at ZERO lbs compession. Ring or valves...looking for my video scope to look in cylinder. Then pull off rocker cover to see if valves stuck open......
2-28-10... Got wheels and tires installed today from 66 brown van. Think im gonna paint the centers to match the copper/gold color on truck.
3-1-10... fixed a flat and painted the spokes on the wheels. Went to Paint store and had a color match done. Got enough to do bumpers and maybe some pinstripping on the dash. Pulled front bumper to straighten. Pulled grill to get in there and lube shiter and ck everything before i put bumper back on.
4-4-10....Motor gave up the ghost, that means it don't run anymore Carolyn. hehehehehe, Any way started stripping it for a motor swap today...
4-12-11... finally played a little with this one, scored a motor from a 68 mustang. And started getting it ready these last few weeks. painted the block tonight.
4-15-11... painted a couple engine pcs....
